Youth in Lesotho
Help Lesotho supports youth in Lesotho as the future leaders of the country. With structured support that meets each individual where they are at, Help Lesotho’s programs are building a generation of youth who are knowledgeable and well-equipped to lead socially responsible lives.
Many Basotho youth are disenfranchised by their lack of opportunities and the loneliness they experience from growing up in rural, isolated communities. They are often without parental guidance or role models, leaving them vulnerable to peer pressure. They struggle to develop self-esteem and the confidence needed to make healthy decisions. Many youth in Lesotho are dealing with issues related to depression, alcohol/drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and abuse (sexual, physical, and emotional).
Help Lesotho defines youth as young persons between 18 and 30 years of age.
